WHY trial considers the time dl'ing?
I got the trial key in weekend and as I have aslow connection I started to dl files. I dled about 2-3 hours and I got eotn outpost after the time. Then I got bored and got afk in lutgardis conservatory (I am hfff'er) WHen I got back I wanted to continue but it said trial time finished Well the only reason can be the time passed dling. Now is dling counted as PLAYING? I thing there is something really foolish here.

Well it was stated the trial counts all time in game as opposed to just time in EotN. You realy should have downloaded all the files beforehand.

I have to agree with the OP; not everyone knows about the -image switch. It would be nice if the trial times didn't count the downloading time. However, I also I think that could have been easily solved by giving everyone just a little more time on the trial as well.
Though I have to ask, why did you spend 2-3 hours AFK when you knew that the trial only lasted for 5 hours?

IMO the trial should only count time spent in the campaign you are trying out, not the whole game.

Kinda thought it a given that it meant from the time you start the trial until the given time is up.
And for anyone who's on dial-up, if you know your connection is slow and is going to take you a while why not look into knocking the download out before hand? I know there's been at least two threads on the front of this sub-forum over the last past couple of days talking about it.

I would have preferred it if they had not counted time in Tyria (normal), Cantha or Elona as 'trial' time. As for DL time... just use -image to download files beforehand.
Seeing as no-one has explained how to do this, I will.
Create a GW shortcut if you dont already have.
Right click it, and scroll to Properties.
Click 'Shortcut' Tab, then look at the 'Target' textbox.
By default, it should have your GW location. Simply add -image to the end of that.
For example, mine is...
Code:
"C:\Program Files\GuildWars\Gw.exe" -image
Simple!

So you complain that you ran out of time because you failed to utilize that given to you?
I don't think I need to say more to expose this thread as pointless.

Why would you go AFK when you can just turn the game off? You're not gonna play it and unless you wanted to show off how much "hours" you "having been playing" then it is(even if you do, imo it is still utterly pointless) pointless.
If you want the game-buy it. Simple as that.
And if you don't have the $$$, well.....what can i say.......

Image downloads everything as does leaving the game running on the log-in screen. The client is a single game all campaign keys do is open access to the area's. so even if you don't own eye of the north the content is still on your pc if you make sure you have all downloads.

I did the same thing, used -image so i wouldnt waste anytime too, finished d/ling logged into the game had to leave for the afternoon and went AFK.
How was I supposed to know sitting in Ascalon counted as the trial time for EoTN? I even tried to make sure when the 5 hour time was activated, the closest clue I got was a window popping up telling me to talk to Len in LA to start EoTN, like most logical people I thought my trial didnt start until I actually played the game I was trying, not another game. Not my loss, too bad I really wanted to see if EoTN was as bad as they said it was but now I'll just err on the side of caution. Thanks Anet, for nothing. If you wondered why the turnout wasnt as good as you expected, heres your answer.
